What actually changes when people work with me
Grouped by where each person started, so you can find somebody in the same position you are in now.
What unlocking a voice actually looks like
Three notes to three and a half octaves
He arrived with three notes. Not three octaves, three notes, and that was his entire vocal range. I told him honestly that he might be happier playing another instrument.
He asked me to teach him anyway. So we did it properly, intensively, almost a crash course, and we unlocked the whole thing. He ended up with over three and a half octaves and went on to become a recording artist who is now well known in India.
It is the biggest job I have ever done, and it changed the course of my career as much as his.
An average singer, and my first ever student
A regular at the restaurant I managed kept asking me to teach her husband. I kept saying no. Eventually I agreed to six lessons just to end the conversation.
He was an average singer when he walked in. He booked more lessons, then more, and he became genuinely outstanding. He told everyone he knew, a London management company found me because of it, and that is the only reason I do this for a living.
The moment the penny drops
A drag performer who was already good, already building a name, and singing live rather than miming. Resonance was the thing that would not land. It took a while, as it often does.
Then one lesson he looked up with a huge grin and said, "I get you. I completely get everything you're talking about." I can always see that moment arrive.
His voice opened after that. He went from a very good singer to a genuinely remarkable one, and he has not stopped since.
Almost every singer I meet has more in them than they realise. My job is getting them to hear what I can already hear.
Beginners
People who had never had a lesson, or had not sung in years.
From no idea what she was getting into, to singing in front of an audience
"I received 6 lessons for the 'beginners vocal workshop' as a Christmas present and must admit, really wondered what I was getting myself into on the first week. When I arrived at the studio, however, I was greeted by a very friendly, happy face (Matt) and there was no pressure to perform straight away, which made me feel more relaxed and made the session very enjoyable. The lessons were very helpful with a good balance between learning technique and singing some really good songs. I enjoyed it so much that I signed up for a second 6 week session. I feel I am confident enough to sing in front of a small audience, which was my initial goal."

From lost confidence, to hitting notes she thought were out of range
"I have always had an interest in singing but despite having sung on and off when working as an actor in recent years I had let this slip and no longer felt very confident in using my voice. I absolutely loved it, not only did we learn valuable techniques to enable us to hit notes I would have thought were out of my range but it was also great fun and I found myself looking forward to each class. Matt makes the class lighthearted and informal and it was a fantastic opportunity to sing alone and with others, to try new things out in a safe environment."

Returning after years away
From nervous about singing online, to comfortable from day one
"I was nervous about online lessons, but Matt's setup and teaching made me feel comfortable from day one. My confidence has grown massively. He creates such a supportive environment where you feel safe to try new things and make mistakes. The progress I've made in just a few months has been incredible, I can hit notes I never thought possible!"

Developing singers
People who could already sing, and were stuck.
From years of self-teaching, to months of real progress
"Matt's teaching style is clear, encouraging, and incredibly effective. I've improved more in a few months than I did in years of trying to teach myself. The online format works perfectly, it's like having Matt right there in the room with you. He has an amazing ability to pinpoint exactly what needs work and explain it in a way that just clicks. My confidence has grown massively and I'm now singing songs I never thought I could."

From understanding technique, to actually applying it
"The online lessons are so convenient and professional. Matt makes it easy to understand technique and actually apply it to my singing. I was nervous about online lessons at first, but the quality is just as good as in-person. The recordings he sends after each lesson are invaluable for practice. I've seen real improvement in my range and control."

Performers and other teachers
People who already knew what they were doing.
From several teachers, to finally understanding her own voice
"I've had a few one-to-one lessons with Matt, and highly recommend him. I've come to understand more about my voice through these lessons than I have with other teachers. He quickly puts you at ease, and if necessary will sing along with you to help with that, and yet he can still pick up on exactly what's going on with your voice. He works at improving all aspects of your singing: strength, range, tone, vibrato, style, performance. He is extremely perceptive in identifying the cause of any problems with the way you sing, not just what's going on with your vocal cords, but the way you shape your mouth or position the palate, how you control your breath, or simply the conviction you give to the words. He makes you work hard but you don't realise because the lessons are fun. If you're thinking about booking a lesson, just do it!"
